Thursday August 11th 2011 — 2 nights in Paris
Recently, I was set up with a lawyer from Milwaukee. A nice Muslim guy… good education, good dresser, attractive. He reminded me a lot of a guy from my days at Troy High. I had a crush on that particular boy, and I think I spent the better part of my date with Mr.Milwaukee pretending I was out with my soccer playing, umbro wearing, older boy in the halls – crush from high school.
Personal reminder: I am not in high school anymore… this is real life, I am an adult, and this person is here for a reason. He is looking to “meet someone”.
We were sitting at Paris Club, the new hot-spot restaurant in downtown Chicago. Every single thing ordered was deeee-licious. The setting was exciting and romantic… I was hoping for a great night!
I can’t even tell you what we talked about for the first hour of the date, after all I was physically there, but mentally out with someone else. It’s only when I shifted my presence from high school to current day that I started to ask him bachelorette “what are you looking for” like questions. Our answers didn’t add up. Simply put, we are not looking for each other. It really was that simple. I could be out with a good-looking man, that is well-educated, knows how to treat me like a lady… and yet, the reason he didn’t seem to hold my interest is because I am not the type of girl he is looking for – and vice-versa. By the time he dropped me off, I was telling him about a girl-friend I wanted to set him up with… ya never know!
Despite my failed shot at romance in Paris… I decided to head back for a 2nd date later that week. It was a Saturday night, and I had a “girls night” with one of my favorite people in the world – Joanna. This was the perfect dinner… we’ve already established that I love the food, but this time I had engaging conversation with talk about real and emotional stuff , as well as, lots of laughs! Why can’t it be like that with a Man? And when it is like that with a man… Why, oh Why can’t it work out!
I did have some man luck on my date night with Joanna. I ran into someone I had been on a couple dates with a year ago- someone I actually met at the ISNA Matrimonial Dinner in 2010. It was just a few days later, and I was at the same place I had my date with Mr. Milwaukee. This time, I was hanging with a Man in the same profession, with the same type of personal style, the same religious and ethnic background…but, I felt different. Although I struggle with certain things about this blast from the past, I am confident in how he feels about me, and that he is looking for a girl exactly like me. That is huge. That is what helps feelings develop… at least for me.
Thank you Paris… the Club of definately-maybe “romance”.
Thx for the update! I was wondering what the latest was….Whenever you find the right person you are going to be the best wife ever because you will know exactly what you want and be so comfortable with yourself. Keep up the good work
